TREATMENT OF MUSCLES: INTRODUCING INTEGRATED MEDICINE: SOME EXAMPLES OF MASSAGES USED IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES
Here are some examples of massages used in different countries:
Shiatsu
A Japanese style of massage using point-pressure technique, stretching with soft- and hard-tissue manipulation.

Abhyanga
Part of traditional Indian Ayurvedic treatment called 'Panchakarma'. It is performed with medicated oils which are massaged into the body and then squeezed out as if to eliminate the absorbed oil along with the body toxins.
Thai massage
This technique combines deep pressure on muscles and ligaments with manipulation of bones and soft tissues. It stretches muscles and restores normal blood flow into them.
Marma
This is an ancient Indian form of martial arts. The Marma massage involves stimulation of Marma (trigger) points, stretching of muscles and tendons and gentle manipulation of the spine.
Acupressure
This Chinese system of massage of the pressure points in the body, is used as an alternative to acupuncture. The so-called Meridians are also massaged. Toi Na or push-pull massage is another form used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Bomo Massage
The Bomos are traditional healers in Malaysia and Indonesia. They use coins to apply deep pressure on the skin and muscles, often causing bruising. This is a painful procedure but it stimulates and tones up muscles, invigorating the body's energy system.
Swedish Massage
This is a gentle massage of the skin and superficial muscles, basically designed to improve circulation and remove fatigue.
Bear Massage
In Turkey bears used to be trained to walk over the back of a patient.
Indian Dai Massage
Used for mother and child for 40 days after the delivery to help the mother recuperate, remove excess fat and stretch marks and to help the newborn to recover from the physical and mental trauma of birth.
